How to Look After Your Hair

How to Look After Your Hair

Hair is a tricky and very personal subject to tackle; what’s right for one person may not be right for another. Nevertheless, there are some things we can all do that can help your locks be the envy of all your friends. So here are our top five tips to tame your mane.

When to wash

While washing every day may seem like the cleanest option, it’s not the best for your hair. Washing too regularly will strip away the natural proteins and oils which help to keep your hair and scalp healthy. Washing your hair three times a week or every two to three days is the best way to stay clean and healthy.

How to wash

Washing your hair in hot water certainly feels nice, but it’s another thing that can damage your hair. Too much heat can dry and break your hair. On the other hand, washing and rinsing your hair with lukewarm or cool water helps to protect your hair and when you’re used to it is pretty refreshing.

Conditioning

Using a product that’s right for your hair type is a great start when conditioning, so it’s worth taking a bit of time to research different types. Another thing people often do when conditioning is to slather all the hair and scalp, not good. You only need to apply the conditioner to the middle and ends of your hair. Putting conditioner on the scalp can make your hair greasy quickly and may make your scalp itchy.

Blame your tools

Having the right tools makes everything easier and will help maintain healthy and strong hair. A hairdryer and straighteners with heat settings are great, so you can use the required temperature for your hair and not just fry it. Also, using the right brush for your hair will make things a lot easier. Brushing up, pun intended, on the best brushes for your hair will pay dividends in the long run. Also, remember to wash your brushes regularly.

Drying time

Like we mentioned above, using too much heat on your hair is not good. We’re not saying don’t use the hairdryer or straighteners, obviously, but just make sure you’re not just using the highest temperature because it’s there. Only use it if needed. We’d also recommend letting your hair dry naturally from time to time to give everything a break from the heat, we know, but maybe do it when you’re having a duvet day or something.
